A friend of mine gave me 3 Abe-n-Al large flashers and was wondering what would be the best way to use them and under what conditions. I was told that on sunny days they can put off too much reflection and spook the fish. I fish teaser heads, spoons, cut plug herring and grand slam bucktails. Kings in the area I fish are usually in the 45-65 ft. depths. Should the leader lengths be about 2 1/2-3 times the length of the flasher. I must admit they do look good, but I really have not fished them before.

Actually these work pretty good in shallow water.
Lots of guys use these flasher for "returners" when the fish are shallow....( 80 ft. and less).
I know one guy that used these off Ballenas Island all the time, down about 70 ft. Worked for him.
Seen them work in Alberni Inlet in late Aug/September up near town for the spawners around Derby time.
They often seem to work best not on a downrigger line but fished with a weight in front of them up the line about 10 feet or so. You have to be "quick on the draw" to get the weight off when you reel the fish in.
Down deep these flashers have too much drag. I don't like chrome flashers down deep because this type of flasher works best when reflecting lots of light. Down deep there is not much light to reflect so the flasher is of little use as a visual attractant.

Thanks, I will give them a try as most if not all of my fishing is less than 70 ft.

I use them regularly. Usually with an Army Truck hootchie, sometimes near the bottom. Flash Fly is a good option. I also have 1 that has been hit 1 side with UV Blast. Works well. Keep the leader short as per instructions. I got 1 still in original package from way back have a look at the rigging.

All of the Abe and Al, I have seem or used are dodgers, not flashers, and are not intended to roll, but dodge back and forth if trolled at the correct speed. Ther was a time when all I ever used was Abe and Als with slip weights. in the days before downriggers. Lure-washer
