Thinking of coming down from Comox Sat AM (5-6) to have our hand at the Sockeye's, how crazy is that launch in Pt Alberni at that time of day? I keep reading about the # of boats on the water....how are they getting there ? What's the wait time to launch like? An alternative? Is China Creek any better? thanks

last sunday, we were at klutesi at 0430, no problem launching, there was 3 or 4 boats with us. We were on water by 510 fishing, and for the next hr the armada passed us heading out.

The ramp staff are very efficient .Even when its very busy you will seldom wait for more than 10 min.The best bite is at dawn so you might want to leave early.

You don't need to go past China. But when you get a spot like Hocking pt dialed in, I dont want to go anywhere else. we Hammered them today! 12 in the boat... best fishing right now, its the heart of the run.

was there today , launched @ 4:20am in China Creek,no waiting, fished by Nahmint, limit for 3 of us in a few short hrs @ 30-45ft, mcgyver go EARY in the morning,

Arrived at Nahmint at 7am not my fault!!! Fished till 10 ran down to China for a couple of hours, all total put 3 in the boat... Lost about 10 but had fun anyways. We were a little deeper at 60-75' and maybe we missed them? Very frustrating when you watch the schools go by and no takers. Was i missing something in my setup? 1.8-2.0 knots, green flasher, 28-36" leader, and tried everything from black hooks to red gami's hooks to red/pink (hootchies) with only a couple of "tenticles". was constantly switching gear and everything seemed to get hit at one point or another but nothing consistently. Welcome to Sockeye!
Spring...... not sure i can get there for 4:20 from Comox!!

Lol! that sucks man. Your depth was right, your speed was ok. Did you put out dummy flashers or a daisy chain? Did you run 4 rods? Your leader length is the reason you caught little. try 18.5inches.
