Cheers All,

Two years ago we were running 4 rods while fishing for early sockeye opposite China Creek. We had a smack on the one rod that was very impressive and, after a long battle on the light gear, we were rewarded with a 31 lbs spring. Never anticipated that but it was pretty good as we had had runs before but had rarely hung on and never any that big.

So...one might be running for sockeye but others lurk in those waters! :D

2007 and 2008 there was no Sockeye opening in the Canal, maybe you meant 4 years ago? or last year? or...?

Pics plz!

FYI:
2007 return - 150,000
2008 return - 150,000

They need like 300,000+ to open the fishery.

Don't be too disappointed with the sockeye fishery just yet fellas. The river is running high & cold right now, so those early fish are just jetting up river with only one thing on their minds. The fish don't usually start backing up in the canal until at least mid June or when the weather finally turns hot & the water temps climb in the river. Lots of fish reported jumping out in Barclay so they are on their way!! :)

Cheers Steelhead:

You are certainly correct: there were a couple of years of closed runs. When I referred to two years ago: this is this year and last year was two years ago.
Wrote it in a hurry. Thank you for clarrifying that situation. Hey...people do read the fine print! :o

FG - that's what I thought you must have meant.

Anyhow, I got my limit today on the river. I think I stirred up the pot a little, because I parked on native land while I fished... Last year, I mean 2 years ago (lol), I did the same and no probs, this year I had 6 car loads of natives the DFO and CO at the park and they all asked me to move my truck 50m's off native land. No big deal I said! And moved my truck... Then went back to fishing. Good times.

Not a lot of fish in the river. I just got lucky.

Does that mean you are not able to walk across the park to get up the river or just can't park in the parking lot at their campground? Later

Are there any counts out yet? We went past the river last Sunday and saw quite a few boats (probably 12) with the nets out. Usually two boats to a net so 6 nets I'm assuming. This was about 4:00 p.m..

Steelhead- "Anyhow, I got my limit today on the river. I think I stirred up the pot a little."

Any ideas as to how long they'll keep the river open for?
