Actually there is no need to go anywhere near as far as Nahmint!
Loads well inside of that.
But... Seine's start tomorrow, gillnet to follow, so get out there NOW if you can! :?

Cheers,

I agree with Nog, all around lone tree, coos creek, and dunsmir have have been found in multitudes of schools.
Can anyone share what their logic is for using Black Or Red hooks? My father tried it today and we ended up getting 4 hits, 2 in the boat, 1 released (twas small) and 1 lost at the boat. Gotta love having the hooks spit out by the fish and flying back at your face.

I saw fisheires officers posting a stop fishing notice for the FNs at noon, Said they have taked 63000 fish and must stopp immediately..

at the kletsui ramp on the pilings and other places.

I went out got 7 lost 5, and blowen off water, so overall good day, was fishing across for china creek at 50ft. Still had hits at 12pm..

Well let's be realistic, it's human nature to be greedy. The FN's have always had priority to be able to fish many stocks even those that are well in danger of being depressed (fraser river socks last year and early run chinook's this year). This is a very healthy run, the run has been upgraded to 850,000 from 600,000.

Now that they can sell sockeye why stop, I mean why would they want to stop fishing. But really why would you sell a whole fish that is easily worth $30+ in the supermarket for $10 that's just plain stupidity on the FN's part.

DFO has big trouble on their hands this year, how are they going to stop the FN from fishing the river with their nets? It will be the commercial and recreational sectors giving up pieces of their pie to make up for what the FN's have already gone passed their allocated total.

But really the commercials have already gotten a ton of fish this run when compared to other sectors and they have the seine opening today and gillnets tommorow on top of what they have already fished.

I'll be very curious to see the real escapement numbers when all the dust settle's as it seems every week there are alot of fish being removed from the system, I was out at the stamp falls and the water seemed very dead and unusually quiet for this time of year for fish movement.

When I saw SeaDog's note about the sign, I had to go down and have a look myself. Yup, there it is in Black & White, right at the Marina launch. And, as I was reading it, a nice shiny new 4x4 with 2 FN fellas in it backed their little gillnetter into the launch, made ready, and set off to do Business As Usual, stopping but briefly to speak with another of their band also readying his nets for the evening...

As far as sales, the new sign states quite clearly that "any further fishing efforts and SALES (specifically) are NOT AUTHORIZED" Hmmmm...

You're very correct Tasteless in that The Dino has bitten off a rather HUGE chunk this time around. The fellows I saw read the sign, laughed, and carried on. Methinks that will very much be the way of it until the sockeye stop running. Someone in the Department actually grew a set simply to post what they did. Backing that up is another matter Entirely!

On the other side of the coin, the lower river is chock full of sockeye right now. The snowmelt in the last heat wave rose the river by 2 feet, cooled it, and that has triggered a lot to wander up. Timing was decent, those ones missed the Bag Party.

Cheers,
Nog

funny that they would post up a sign and not enforce it, since they KNOW they will continue to fish. I guess its just a little lip service so they can say they shut it down but we all know they will fish until the run is over.

Its a shame that every time that system has a good run they hammer it even harder - wouldn't it be nice if they actually had escapement past the bare minimum for a few years.

Story in the Times Columnist today:

Quote:
There's something fishy going on with sockeye salmon sales, and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans wants to put a stop to it.

Ha ya right, more like they want to put out a press release to show that they are doing something but as usual will do nothing.
