I used an old electric trolling motor for power, cutting the shaft down to a shorter length. I used a flexible coupling to a small 35:1 right angle gear box, and turned a wood pulley on my lathe. It is all mounted on a right angle aluminum frame. It will just about pulll the stern of the boat under if a trap hangs up, two traps with appropriate weights is no probblem at all!

Go over to the SFBC site and do a search for pullers. Several of us have built our own and you should get some good ideas.
