Looking for any tips regarding securing your kicker while running out to fishing spots. The pounding my transom took while in Tofino last summer makes me consider myself lucky I didnt do any signicant damage, or even worse lose my kicker.
I have a heavy duty Garelick adjustable mount. I am currently wrapping a tie down stap around the leg and securing it to hardware attached to the boat, but would like to hear of any better solutions. I have heard of using a wedge to force and lock the braket into the highest postion it will go, but it seams like you could easily loose the wedge in transit.
Any advice would be apreciated.

maybe time to swap that kicker mount for a fixed bracket, like the white one I put on the grady, there's a guy on the south island that makes them for about $200 - maybe somebody has his website handy?

i have had that problem on my 17',just use a heavy rubber bungy and cinch it down tight.Kicker brackets can be a nuisance in the rough.make sure you use big washers or backing plates when mounting kicker brackets for the worst thing is when they bust out your glass transom. When running in the rough, stowe your gear and batten the hell out of everything.no worries,Ss out

Question is which Garelick bracket model you have. And weight of kicker.
I have the Garelick #71090 (made for the heavier 4 stroke ob's) with a t-8 and no problems.
With the original Garelick bracket (stainless steel arms) that was on the boat I did see some movement with the kicker. Upgraded the bracket and no problem.
And as Salmonslayer says, make sure the bolts are well supported inside the hull, a backing plate is better than washers.
