you can cast off rocky point in Nanaimo the springs come right in and you can get them there, I haven't fished there in a long time but I got a good one there years ago and I know guys still fish there all the time and I don't fish pinks but guys fish them right off departure bay beach also you can go to neck point and cast off the rocks there too you need a low tide to get to the spot used too fish there to when I was younger

Before I bought my boat, I fished off rocky point lots....

Two summers ago I landed a 12lb and my bro went back the following day to land an 11lb. The day before I went, there was a 33lb taken off the rocks....

Timing is everything and the wind sure makes a difference.

Nile Creek and Departure Bay work for the pinks. There was a run last year so numbers this year may be low. They seem to work in two year cycles.

Cheers

There should be a good run of pinks in Deprture bay this year. They have been net raising and releasing them for the past few years to create a sport beach fishery. Last years run however never really materialized and from what I hear ended up in Chemainus. Nile creek I believe is an up year on their cycle, and should be very good. Qualicum beach, French creek, Nile creek, and Nanoose Bay can all be very good for Coho late Sept to mid Nov. So break out your waders cause they are coming.

I was casting from the breakwater this morning(wishing I was in a boat),and caught a 1 pound juvenile coho.Released the lil puppy to grow a whole lot more.
Not many boats out this morning but the water was way nicer than I woulda thought, the inland wind and skies woulda made anyone think the seas would be rolling but the few boats that went out had some smooth trolling.
Might try shorecasting Otter this afternoon.High tide might bring some pinks or coho closer to the rocks and shore.

Ahh,never made it out last night so drove out to otter this morning. Was foggy, and the fog fell like rain.ANd then I slipped while walking down the rocks, net and rod went flying while I landed on my back, with my packpack on,that 6pak in there left a bruise on my back.Lost a spinnow when the line got wrapped around my rod tip.The tide was way low which sucked even more. And all the beautiful silence was often broke with people hooting and high fiving and nets coming out, rods bending fishing jumping trying to get away....and me,wishing I was in one of them boats.
But I tell ya,it was a beaty morning!!!!!SO nice out there and the weather change made it even better. My hands started to numb up from the coldness.
What else...oh,then I went to the breakwater which was kinda crowed with shorecasters at the point.Boats all over and some landing fish.Lots of bait boiling the watertop very close to shore. Then this one bait ball came up and was HUGE with good 10 inch fish jumping out all over,we all went to cast into it when this stupid whale watching boat parks right on top of the boil, fish were hitting the boat.So we couldnt cast because of him.WE hear him say to his guest,"oh look,we've ran into a school of herring, these fish are surfacing probably because of predatory salmon chasing them from below".....I don't know why I didn't jus cast anyways and hit the side of his boat.
Ya so,that was my lousy day fishing, but it beat all them good days at work.Wow,that was alot said ....I'm diffinately bored!!! :o
