If you want an inexpensive heavy jig for Cod, hali or other larger bottom fish, this may be of interest. They are not my design but reportedly work well, and they are easy to make up.
3/4 inch rigid copper pipe, in 8 inch lengths
Drill small hole just far enough from end to prevent hook from wrapping past base
8/0 treble and SS cotter key - insert in hole and spread ends
Fill with lead, and insert another SS cotter key with large swivel attached.
You may want to use a little glow paint on lower half.
You could also make a clean version with 2 swivels at top for attaching a skirt.
If you drill a few 1/8 inch holes through the copper, you will create a slightly hotter jig (that will help attract your prey) as electrolysis between the two metals creates a slight charge.
Net weight will be approximately one pound, 13 ounces

Funny this comes up. Winter Harbour the end of Aug and the lodge owner we stayed at gave me one. As good as the mudraker my brother was using, at least for ling cod. They don't look like much but they do seem to work.
