I spoke with a Sechelt friend about it and he mentioned that his two brothers ere fishing herrng off Nanaimo and they put out some prawn gear. They came on someone lifting it but were too slow to catch him. Funnily enough they saw him the next day picking up someone else's gear and this time, as he was mid pickup, they were able to get alongside. Their gear was still in his boat. They took it back. I've asked him to get a description of the boat and the thief and I'll post it. Cheers They took pictures. And a couple more.

Thanks for posting those pics Skagit. Finally someone has been exposed for this crap. Hes lucky those boys were lienient enough to let him just cruise away after that.
If I run into this guy stealing my gear i'll make sure to post the coordinates just so in the furture nobody tangles up their traps around some red POS thats sitting on the bottom in 300ft of water.

Cheers All,
Don't bother with co-ordinates: simply take a picture and call the police. I am fed up with thieves.

That guy sure got off easy, I know a few old commercial boys who would have done some scary things to those fellas. Nothing worse then a thief

Go ahead. If this guy's got an explanation it would be great to hear what it might be. It annoys me that I'm afraid to put down gear and go out of sight cuz it may not be there when I get back. I lost traps line, buoys (on 600 ft of line) and burned a ton of gas trying to find them out by Flattops a year ago - easy $5-600. That takes all the fun out of the exercise. If I pick up anybody else's gear I'd be prepared to explain myself.

Exactly i know a number of friends who have had traps stolen from that area. There really is no excuses.... You know when its not your trap plain and simple. Unless it had been sitting there a week and looked lost there is no reason to touch anothers trap. Maybe best to ask him and see if he has an excuse but honestly it seems pretty clear.

This guy's boat photos should be posted at every marina and fishing tackle shop. Thieves need to be stopped.
