Talked to a few guys that say hes a nice guy and couldnt believe it. They also said he pulled his boat out of the water about 10 days ago. Skagit would you be able to find out if this guy had an excuse or some more info before people go throw pics up.

Please note that I'm not drawing conclusions I'm just passing along what I heard. My thought wa that since I didn't know the guy or the boat someone who does could ask what was happening and pass that along. There could be a hundred reasons why he picked up thei gear. There could be a number of reasons why when they saw him from a ways off they ran over to check it out and he took off. I imagine he still had their gear in the boat the nxt day so he could find them and give it back. I DON"T KNOW! The guy who's gear it was don't want to pursue it as its a pain in the neck - I understand that better now.
I only put it up so someone could look into it. If this was legit he has my sincerest apologies.
As far as that goes have the guy who runs the site take them off.

I have been asking around Schooner Cove as well. Without exception, the response has been that this seems out of character. My main fishing partner who has been to his house for drinks is very skeptical. While it makes sense to be vigilante, unless you have personal knowledge of this issue I would agree that you should leave it until you have spoken to him.

Was out by the fingers droppin prawn traps this morning. As we were droppin them a small orange bouy went floatin by just breakin the surface, obviously havin a hard time floating the traps which were not touching the bottom.....turned to my friend and we debated whether we should go and rescue the bouy and traps or whether we would be haulin them up and have someone scream up and accuse us of theft...debated back and forth for a coupla minutes till my fishin partner pulled his badge out and said.."we won't be accused of anything-let's rescue it" Fired up the motor and got allongside the bouy....just as it went under and fell below my extendable poles reach. We tried, we failed to rescue them, so if someone believes their orange bouyed traps were stolen...they weren't. Side note ...after 3 hours went back to fingers to pick up our traps and they were half way to entrance floating in 900 feet of water...got them back tho. Moral of the story...use floats big enough to float your setup. I wonder how many stolen traps are a result of what I saw today?

I have to agree with you Aqua, I think that if i find some traps just bobbing around I will try to retrive the bouy to get the phone # call them explain the situation and go from there, as the fellow who alleged to have stolen the traps, as i have MY OWN QUESTIONS as to why he would still have the owners bouys on the rope as he had enough bouys hanging on his boat and if they where bobbing around why didn't he phone the # (????) to let them know he had retrived them, very sticky area

These are just my thoughts on the matter and am no way implying blame on any one of the party's involved

Thank-you
Tony

I also was out prawning at fingers saturday, with 2 sets of gear. There was at least couple other buoys around, The wind came up about an hr after I ran in, and the chop increased, I came back after couple hrs, only to find the other bouys all gone, and one of mine missing. I retrieved one set and decided that maybe my float was too big and with that swell, it might have pull off into deeper water. Low and behold, half way to snake is where I found my gear in 700 ft of water. The chop was also with the big ebb, so was probably more current flowing by fingers outside.
If I saw someone's gear sinking, I would attempt to rescue it, and move to shallower water, or add another of my floats to it. Good idea to have your phone number on yur buoy. I recovered a US crab float from rocks on outer fingers, US numbers, and severed rope. no phone number
Just so you know, if a tug picks up yur gear, we will call you, if there is anumber. I recently caught a guys crab trap off Hatch point, on bow of barge, after docking barge, took the trap back out to the bank, and spotted a same number, so we reset it, of course guy probably wondered how it got moved.

Does anyone know when the commercial prawning opens? It must be soon. I wasted 30 min on the DFO site trying to find it with no luck.
