My 1993 merc 115 outboard calved at the end of this past summer and I am not beginning my search for a couple of year old 150hp with as much as 400 hours.
Whats your preference and why? I have been doing research on the net and have found pros and cons about each manufacturer....
Etec- great power, low emissions, poor fuel mileage
Yamaha 4 stroke- so so power, quiet, fuel efficient, really heavy
Mercury direct injection- good power, reasonable fuel mileage, lots of maintenance
Any personal insight would be appreciated. Thanks

Yamaha all the way and really not so heavy anymore. For the 225 - 300's they have shaved over 60 lbs. off the weight. That means that a 4s 250 weighs 558 lbs. vs the e-tec of the same size at 507 lb. weight is only 10% higher. for the 115's its 390 lbs for the e-tec vs. 415 for the Yamie (less than 7%)
Quiet, more fuel efficient, smoke free, stink free, ..... no additional costs of $80/gallon synthetic oil............got my vote - and I have a DFI - 2stroker
