Well after ten fishing trips I am still skunked! Two shakers and yesterday a dog fish! What is the secret to getting a salmon in these waters? I have tried every depth from dragging the ball on the bottom all the way up to about 60 feet! I am starting to get a little frustrated and the wife is tired of waiting for a meal of salmon....LOL :? :?

Oldman, where exactly are you fishing off French Creek?
I fish there when I can get out, and although it has`nt been hot fishing by any standard, there are a few fish around. maybe I can help.
There are some places which seem to be better than others.

It turned on early august for us last year outfront. Most of the fish were big whites. We hit a 32 and 25 on aug 5th to start then did not get skunked for 14 straight trips after that with fish 20-40lbs. We always fished the 170 foot contour in close then gradually worked our way offshore to the humps. Dont be afraid to fish deep. 170-250 feet normally we tried to be right on bottom. Top producer was a lime needlefish then purple haze, splatterback, white with spoons hitting a few. Fish them at 2 knots with a 38 inch leader.Fish the tides but better yet just put in the hours as the bites are often sporadic at best. tight lines

Thanks for the reply's guys. I am a newbie to the area so do not have a clue about things like "The Humps". I just follow the crowed! I am looking for some person that knows how to fish the area but does not have a boat. We could help each other!

Humps are just a few areas offshore about a mile where it comes up to about 200ft from 250-280ft. Its an easy area to fish and it sounds like your doing the right things. Just need a few more fish around.

I fell your pain. The Creek can be a tough fish at times. However the others are right if your in the right places it can be a very fruitful fishing area at times.
I do have my own boat andt do live in the area and would be more than happy to go out in your boat or mine and give it a go. Send me private text and wee' see if we can get together. ;)

Gave the creek a try for a couple of hours last night on a very nice flat calm night
Only fish on the sounder were what appeared to be small schools of coho at 30-60'. Had a few 2 light hit either side of the tide :o . Tried 120-210 with spakle back and purple haze. Very few boats out for such a nice night  . Didnt see any caught. maybe a new group will move in later this week :) .

May not be cohoe you are seeing down 30-60', but pinks or sockeyes. Next time you start seeing them again, try a pink or small red hootchie on a short leader for a little while and see what you get? :) .....BB
