I can't say I've ever fished with the turd before but I'm wondering what sort of leader lengths guys have used? Do you just run em the same as hootchies?

I had a pack of them I bought at PNT about a year ago. I finally broke down and tried them. We were using about a 5' leader behind glow green flasher off of Ucluelet.

I like to know more as well from the turd experts :D

They fish the same as a hootch. 40 inch leader with a big single siwash. Didnt do great with them on springs but hali limits.

I agree they are just another hooch. I was using a big single siwash as well.

I'll try shortening up the leader next time. Thanks Kelly.

They are a hootchie with short tenticles and a longer slender head. Basically the same as these in the pic. A 60 inch leaders to long as the hootch wont have much action. If goin for hali soak them up in scent.

The Turd that I was given about 10 years ago by a dearly departed guide/commie friend was BROWN, hence the "Turd" word. It was tied onto a 24" inch leader of 60# test mono with a large siwash/swivel set-up. Good off the west side. Chalupa

Was at PNT this aft. Buddy was in looking for brown turds. Order delayed from Japan, none available anywhere right now. Careful with the one you got!

Method Marine or Jay's shop in Tofino probably have them in stock.

Seems to be a staple up there. Years ago I was told by a guide up there "if all else fails throw on a turd"!

The one I was using was a longer tenticled hootchie not the long body type kelley was referring to. Maybe this isn't even a true turd. Anyways it worked :)

I heard there are some different variations of it. The ones I've seen in the shops in Tofino were like the ones Kelley is talking about.

I friend of mine says sticking different bright coloured needlefish skirts (especially orange) inside works well on the west coast.

The body bait referred to by Kelly is the real McCoy " Brown Turd" . Method Marine in Tofino special orders them right from Japan. It is deadly on Halibut - i've hooked Halis 60 feet off the bottom on this thing. I fish it 0n a 50 inch 60# leader and i've caught more Salmon in the 40's on the Turd than bait.
