looking to buy my first fly vise, kind of middle of the road, any advice? good brands, good quality, good warranties?

I've had a middle of the road Renzetti for the last few years and love it. I got it as a gift, probably around 200 bucks. I would check them out if you are in the market for a new one.

I'm not a huge tyer but I do have a vise I really like and I think it was only around $100. I just took a look and I couldn't find a brand name on it, got it at island outfitters though.

My preference is for the heavy weighted base type, I hate the clamp ones personally.

I have seen some dreadful vises sold locally in fly tying kits. IMHO, the best value is in a moderately priced well made American vise like the Renzetti Apprentise, top notch design, wide range of hook sizes accepted, sold locally, for around $100.00. It will outlast you.

I got my vice off ebay for $9. Holds the hook and works and looks like most of the fly tying vices I've seen. If you spend $30-60 you can get a whole kit off there.
