I was asked to put this in the tips section, so here it is.

I only started fishing this year, but noticed a relation between weather and good fishing days, great fishing days and boring ones. So I threw together a little excel file that gets the last 52 days of weather and analysis it a bit.

You can find it here: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fi ... 4350421104

NOTE: Click on the "Weather Alerter.xlsx" link itself to get the file.
Don't click on the banners that say download. (first free file hosting I could find.)

Or build your own... here's how.
1. open Excel
2. Go under menu item Data > Import External Data > New Web Query
- In the newer versions of Excel it's the "From Web" button in the data ribbon

3. Enter this address into address bar
Code:
http://weather.gladstonefamily.net/cgi-bin/wxobservations.pl?site=C9953&days=56&html=1

4. When you click the Go button it should load the website.

5. Click on the yellow box with a black arrow in it to use the table of data and click the Import button.

You should now have a spreadsheet of the weather including barometric pressure, temp, wind direction, etc.
- - - - - - - -
In the excel file I put together I have set it up to analyse changes from average. I have found that 1 day before a drastic weather change the fishing is great and then it's bad until 2 days after the weather change. It's like the fish get shocked by it and it takes 2 - 3 days to recover.

Have fun with this and try out charts and things. I will be working on this for 2011 and will post any updates I make to it. Feel free to post your own analysis setups.

I originally came up with this concept by going to a site called http://fishingreminder.com

You sign up there and make your location victoria and you will get an email reminder 2-5 days in advance. So far it's only been wrong for me a couple of times. But I think the fault lays on me and not the weather.

At the end of the day though, a good fishing day is any day you can go fishing!

Great idea, it will be interesting to see how well it works as more data gets plugged in over time.

I like this idea very much and it fits well with my commitment to starting a fishing log this charter season.

Now if I wrangle an easy way to make this all work on my smartphone I can update it on the fly as I'm on the water. hmm... I wonder how hard it is to code an app

Gah... you told an insomniac a good idea :(

I'll have this on my list of things to do this year.
