I finally got my boat back after almost a month of back and forth with Yamaha over water in the oil. Turned out to be an oil pump issue covered by Yamaha, thank you Yamaha ( past warranty). I put the boat back in the water and stopped by Thrasher on the way to the dock, falling tide, splatterback on a long leader @ about 130', 1 8lb'r in the boat after about 45 min., marked a few more at the bottom and some bait but no more takers in my allotted time.

Fished the Grande to Waterfall yesterday while the traps soaked. Fished 220 to 250 foot depth trying to rub the bottom now and again. Some excited pixels at the waterfall but nada. Headed out into the deep a the Grande to finish up and tricked a fat little keeper on a rubyset wobbler with 280 feet of string out. No flasher.

Anybody having any joy off the Gabriola reefs?

Where is the grande and the waterfall? Ive just started to fish the Gabriola area recently, and mostly fish neck and the fingers. Saw a fish boat off neck today, mabey the DFO testing for herring. Anyone know when the first opening is?

Cheers All,

The waterfall is on the outside of Gabriola Island about 3/4 the way down to Silva Bay while the Grande is right in the corner just before you head into Silva Bay (has a wood covered house and a bed n' breakfast).

As for the fish boats testing for herring they were there on the weekend. Should be about 2 or 3 weeks before they set for them as the understanding I have is that they are a bit late this year.
