Has anyone trailered a boat through the Lake Cowichan road ? Have heard it's 120km of gravel, but not sure if it's in good shape.

Hi Dark Star, I have driven the road in a truck. From my experiance, the road to Nit Nat Main is the really bad part and the Nit Nat Main to Bamfield Main is better. I have not recently driven the road. But depending on what kind of boat you have , I would not risk the road on my gear. IMO the hiway is faster and easier on the gear. Good Luck, Island Idiots

120km on gravel. I wouldnt even think of towing my neighbors boat down that road LOL.. let alone my own boat. Take the highway. I don't even drive to Bamfield anymore I launch in Port and boat in. The damage done to boats each year on them roads is crazy.

If it were me, I'd boat in from Port Alberni and if you need vehicle have someone drive the truck in separately.

scott I took my drift boat to nitinat and the portion before the bamfield turn off is intense. I couldn't travel more then 25k/hr and that was with just the drift boat.
I also took my K&C on the bamfield road this year and its not bad at all.

The road to Bamfield can be brutal - launch in Port.
If you are determined you can drive to China Creek from Port, it's about 15 min on the gravel road. This will give you an idea of what it might be like out to Bamfield. But the first half from Port to Bamfield is always better than the second half.
If it's just a weekend trip park your truck and trailer in the field across from Clutesi Haven.
