I don't know where your'e located but, I just took up fly fishing this year and I practiced in my yard a bit first and then I tried it out from a canoe in first nanaimo lake. Tons of fun, nothing to snag besides myself and the canoe[wear glasses]and I caught lots of fish. Good luck.

yes it is that lake and there is ALOT of fish in there. Its mainly hatchery rainbows but there are also native cutthroat, bass and sunfish. Try to leave the cutts alone though, we don't want to harm the original fish species in the lake. last week i caught a 14" cutty and a few rainbows 15"+. also a decent size bass.
