This is my biggest ling to date that grabbed onto a greenling. Let her go to spawn as who wants a 40lb ling anyways.

That spring off the deck is badass!

I was about to ask how come people are tossing the big lings back, not as good eating as the little guys or is there a slot size limit on them or like kelly said breeders just like the bigger halibuts, I don't bottom fish alot the biggest ling i've ever brought to the boat has been 12 pounds from here in the alberni inlet.

Either way those videos were pretty good, wonder what happened to that salmon (coho?), I guess if they live after being gouged by a seal that that coho probably lived to swim another day lol?

They are the breeders. I wouldnt personally keep any over 15 lbs likely.

That looked like a feeder spring. Wonder how it played out? Bet the ling held him till he died. then ???????

I heard that anything over about 32'' was a female and the bigger they are, the bigger the egg mass that they lay. Also I find that the bigger ones are a bit coarse.

At the end of the video the salmon got loose and swam away, though the ling held it for sometime before it broke free heh.

few yrs back, I was at langara and they had a fisheries team there, they said lings over 30-35 lbs also have higher tendency to get worms as they are quite old. They suggest letting them go to breed.

And as about, the meat can be poorer quality.

sure fun to get one that big , that's hanging onto a small one. My friends got a 42 in nootka this yr.
