Watch for the gillnettters in Parksville Bay-that is always a good sign that the herring have arrived. They will usually be there just before the commercial opening. It should happen around the end of February.

The herring are there already. Give me a nice day and I will be out there fishing them. I have filled two coolers in a hour with the right jigging gear. Building some rig's right now.

You can retie herring jigs that you buy at the sporting good shops with 15-20 leader. That makes it easier to shake them off your line into buckets without unhooking them by hand. It will save you money. No more broken jigs. I tie 2 jig sets together. More hooks more herring.

Thinking about heading out tomorrow and or Thursday. Going to jig a few spots and see what I can turn up.

Then they are going on the lines to see what they turn up.

So thick in the water last night I could have walked accross them. Jig them in the morning and nothing. I can't even explain how many herring I see every day I work in Baynes Sound but when I go to Jig nothing. Time to take a rod to work
