Cheers All,

Thanks to HOT RODS - who messaged me that the herring were spawning - I slipped out on Wednesday and caught all my bait for this year. On average I
don't think they are as big as last year but they are just fine as the variety will
ensure the proper size for springs, ling cod and halibut. Definitely not as many
boats out chasing them this year either. Also managed a decent haul of prawns too! :)

The hot spots for the herring were Piper's Lagoon and the Green Can off Departure.

I now have a camera on board at all times and, as I have mentioned earlier, I will post all pictures my guests feel comfortable and allow posting. I will post first on my web page and then on here.

Back on the water Sat, Sun and Mon....

Cheers marbledmurrelet,

Bob Meyers (Silver Blue) is a great local guide and runs out of Gabriola Island.
Bob does not run into Nanaimo which requires your guests to take the ferry to
Gabriola Island. Invictus Charters and Silver Blue work together to cover
the fishing charters in the area and support each other.

Well, I guess you have to weigh the advantages against the dis-advantages.....Sure you would have to take an extra very short ferry ride to Gabriola, but, you would be leaving for your trip from Silva Bay which is practically on top of the best fishing grounds. If the weather is even a little bit rough, it is sure nice to not have to make that long run across from Nanaimo, especially if anyone is prone to sea sickness. I know that is my least favorite part of fishing Thrasher or The Flat Tops, the trip over there. Same thing if the wind picks up while you're out there, means a longer bumpier ride home. Good luck with your decision MM....I'll post a link to Bob's website if you want to check it out...
