As I was driving out of Nanoose the other morning I spotted what seemed to me to be a very large bull elk. It was the only elk I have seen on the Island in my 12 years of living here.

Yes indeed, Many herds of elk on the island....
Cowichan has a nice size herd, Seen a huge herd on Nanaimo lakes road last year.
Gold river is great hunting for elk aswell

I guess my point was that the elk was on Powder Point Rd, not exactly in the bush

Labman,

I believe they are limited entry for the rifle. May also be open for bow without the draw.

Elk on VI are all on LEH. The herds are growing and expanding in range. A new tag was put out this year in the Duncan area.

The odds of drawing a tag are HUGE but I will continue putting in....probably for the rest of my life.
