Hello, all.

Still messing with rigging. Read somewhere that tying the braid to a swivel and then ganion to the swivel, while allowing the swivel to act as a stopper bead, does lead to failure of the swivels which causes lead pollution ;-(

When I did up my braid 3 years ago I didn't have ganion but did have some thick (1-2mm) braided line that seemed really strong. This stuff has worked well ever since, and I have used a swivel at the junction. This morning the thick braid section on one side frayed a lot so I redid it at home. As I was redoing it I didn't like the condition of the old swivel so wondered what else might work...

The Albright knot is in my arsenal so I tried it to connect the DR braid to the thick terminal braid. Guess what? The resulting knot is strong as heck (I put as much tension on it as I could without cutting my hands in 2!) and is the same diameter as a Scotty stopper bead. Tested the knot in the driveway several times and it stops every time. Will keep you all posted.
IFL does something similar and seems happy...

By the way if the knot slims down once in the water I can always put a stopper bead just above the knot, or just below it!

Anyone else trying this?

Smiley.
