Remember to take a camera along when fishing locally just in case you get lucky and boat a halibut. In order to become a member of our "Halibut Club" you need to catch the fish on our side and within site of Gabriola Island. You also need to produce a photo. So if you don't have one with you make sure you take the time to get a pic befor the fish is consumed. Take the photo into Dane at Harbour Chandler and get out of the "Buttless Club" and into the Halibut Club.

"Buttless Club" I'm not sure I like the sound of my club. I'd better start fishing a little deeper.

On a clear day I think you can see a bit of Gabriola off French Creek

Cheers All,

Definately going to put some time into catching a Nanaimo Halibut as I want one of those Nanaimo Halibut Club (NHC) T-Shirts! They must be valuable shirts as, on my charter on Saturday, I saw 3 different boats anchored off Gabriola fishing for halibut. The word is out!

Good Luck to ALL!

I'm told by DFO that these are most likely 'transient' halibut rather than local. Apparently, you can tell by the colour of the belly. If it's pure white it is a local if it is scraped and red then it is a transient.
