There have now been 12 halibut (that we know of) caught off Silva Bay in the past few months. Harbour Chandler has agreed to sponsor a local Halibut club similar to the Tyee Club in Campbell River. All you have to do is catch a halibut in local waters (final rules to be determined) and get a photo taken. Lee and the gang at the Chandler will present you with a Hali Club t-shirt and certificate. Your photo will be posted on their Hali Club board. We are looking for suggestions for a name, logo, rules etc. Please PM me or post your suggestions here. And yes, everyone who has caught a halibut this year off Gabriola will become members if they have a photo.

Very interesting idea - but one question, has anybody ever took the time to drop and anchor and drop some meat down for halibut in that area?

very cool though hot rods, I hope you get this up and running and let me know if FVI can do anything to help.

Here's the one caught by a guest of Bob Meyers. I'm sure Bob will fill in the name for us. (Hopefully the photo appears. It does not show on the preview)

Try posting photo again. Here's the one caught by Dr. Rogney Dyck, a guest of Bob Meyers.

Good work Hot Rods. We'll have to try a bit harder for the flatties when we get the boat back on this side. Be good entertainment while waiting for the prawns to file into the traps.

Cheers All,

Lee at the Harbour Chandler has treated me more than fair and it is not surprise that he would support such an endeavour! I am definately going to join that club...soon!

Now time to look over the charts...if I were a halibut...where would I hang out? Hmmmmmmm ;)

Isn't there a sandy bottom out by rocky point? I am not sure how big an area it is but I heard about it in the past. Perhaps, we could find something out there as well.

Next time I get out, I will try to fish near bottom in that area.
