Used to be possible with a valid reason. Mac and Blo used to be pretty good. Western Forest Products are hard to get a hold of. You can pretty much can enter most forestry lands on foot or horse back subject to fire restictions, active logging etc. Access to forestry lands is good topic anybody got any recent info?

wouldn't it be great if you could get the keys to some of those gates - last I heard is it doesn't happen. If there is a gate you're walking in

Buy a cordless recip saw and cut at thet bases of the gate and take the gate with you and toss some were they will not find it.

Not that I have ever done it but if you cut the lock or just before they will fix it before you are back out.

Hmmm, because I might drive down it (The Road) and go fishing or picking mushrooms while I still can.

Yes, I am one that works behind locked gates. The reason for them is not for the fishermen and mushrooms pickers. Its for the one's that bust the windows, start up and do damage, break, bent, set on fire etc. It never used to be like that, it is now. So if you want to cut my gate and get by, don't get caught. If you want to get by gate, most jobs have a phone number at bottom of hill. Give a call, most will give you a key. Have a good day. (fishing, picking, etc)

I deal a bit with locked gates.

The first thing you should check is to make sure the access is public. A lot of the east side of the Island is Private land, so just like you have the right to lock your door, the owner of that land has the right to lock a gate.

The main reason that a gate is put up is to stop the vandilisim of the area, whether environment or equipment. You would be surprised at the amount of damage that is done by weekend warriors, 4x4's and mud (creeks, ecosystems etc.).

The other reason we are finding more applications for gates on public land is because a lot of folks think that the land is their own private garbage dump. That stuff pi$$ me off the most.

As some one said above, a phone call will usually get you access, but if you want to tear down a gate....have fun.

Cheers

SS
