Question now is do you remember which adjustments you made ;) . Sooner or later I will figure out our HDS-8, there are a lot of adjustments  they are pretty complex units for sure. I had fish arches before, and after fiddling with a variety of the adjustments to see what they do, now I don't have arches, they are more like little speckles, or else I am not finding any fish out there. I see bait balls fine, great big clouds on the screen, but no big fish. What is up with that, it is supposed to be a fish finder for crying out loud, a very expensive fish finder at that. What you mean that you don't just install one on the boat and then you are guaranteed to find fish?? LOL.

The answer is No! I don't really remember what I did but for now I'm not changing anything.

Called Lowrance and the guy tells me to do a soft reset. Didn't really explain why even after I told him the issue was a) no arches and b) losing bottom randomly. Had my friend with me on Sunday and he tweaked the settings. Big issue was sensitivity. Reset it to 100% and now I can see arches, bait balls .....basically everything that was promised by Lowrance. Mucho happy! Case in point, saw some bait and arches around 75 feet the other day. Brought the gear up from 110 and banged off a couple shakers inside of 10 minutes.

Ok after a couple of months hating then HDS. I may?think better of it.
I set fishing Mode to manual from choices of salt water, slow troll, fast troll.
I could see a lot of fish in alberni canal GO Figure,
Then at the fingers I saw lots at 160.-180 . I have it set at 200ft zone.
First time i have seen any numbers like that and I know they were there before.
Also a tip if you are switching location east//westcoast and the chart could not reset.
Just get the cross hairs of the screen by pushing exit then it will re configure to your new location.
<Thanks Dane>

Hello, FG.

Wondering if you've tried the nice sounder in the Alberni Inlet over the last few days...
If so, what does it show?
We are getting desperate, no sox for a week now in prime season.
If some sox are running deeper we could target them; in the past there have always been some running 80-110'

Thanks.

Smiley.

Went out to China for a 5 am launch. The canal is pretty well empty for sox thanks to our DFO and Commercial friends. Headed up to Pill Pt.. The commercial fleet did a fine job up there also and still fishing gung-ho. Zipped over to Swale and area and finally had one bite and in the boat around 6 lb. Thats it for the Canal in my opinion.

Here are a few pics from my HDS 10. I'm not sure if this photobucket things is going to work so I'll test it before writing more.

Fishing Guide and other HDS folks, not sure if your HDS is dialed in or not. After my first 2 days in Nootka I was able to adjust my HDS 10 to be able to see everything I need to.

There is not one setting on my unit that is in auto. You know how much I hate that little basturd Auto. It's like the windows book, Auto is for Idiots.

Here are a few screen shots of my setting for the sonar.
