Hi Guys, Does anyone think it's worth it to buy manual downriggers anymore, or should I just go for electric ? I have a 16' aluminum w/ electric start, so I do have a battery on board. Thanks in advance.

If you're doing any winter fishing (deep) you will be very happy if you opt for electric's. Makes life so much easier. They are twice the price but worth every penny !

I've had the electrics since the days of the letter from the doctor. Every one that has come out with me has gone and bought electrics. Scotts right, one day of cranking them up out winter spring fishing will seal the deal. Dan

Well, I'm not under 30 but, I am the kind of guy who would rather split his firewood with a maul than a firewood splitter. Still it sounds like everyone recomends going electric.

Definatly dont need electrics. Found this pic in the archives.I fished with these bad boys for years down to 200ft when i was younger. Would NEVER go back to manuals though haha. I remember trying to land fish solo and get the one side up from 150+ft while playing the fish. GONG SHOW.

If you can afford them, and if the sides of your boat will able to safely mount them, go for it. ......BB

If you are fishing areas where bottom comes up really fast. You will bless electrics. especially fishing alone. You can get both sides coming up together. Try that alone with manuals

Manuals are good for winter fishing, as it will keep you active and warm you up. That said, I have a couple of manuals for back up only.
