Out again today from noon until 3:30. Fished the same area around Neck Pt. to the Fingers but only managed to boat 4 or 5 undersized chinook. P-cod were a real problem today. Could not keep the gear down long enough to attract a salmon. All our salmon hit the spackleback rather than the spoon today but another boat fishing the same area had just the opposite. All their fish hit spoons.

Cheers All,

Thanks for the note Hot Rods as I thought I was the only guy being harrassed by the P-cod. Certainly has been a remarkable amount over the past 2 years as previous to that they had not been an issue.

I am finding that I am trolling a bit faster for the winters this year than my normal speed. Not sure if that is what the springs are looking for or simply a sub-conscious effort to keep away from the P-cod.

Funny how the post's lately have been negative about the "P-cod" as I have always wanted to try them (eating wise). I guess I will say these last reports sound good :D . I have a couple of recipes in mind and I know what is going to hit the table soon.

One can only catch so many salmon and eat so many salmon before the taste bud's say enough is enough  :)

Prawning, crabbing, oyster picking, and clamming are great in winter time as well.

Just throwing out idea's folks  .

Get out there and enjoy what this great Province of ours has to offer.

The P-cod can definately be a problem as far as not knowing that they are on the line while trolling, but once they are up to the boat, I sure don`t mind keeping them.
We find that they are delicious, and as you say Sculpin, even salmon can get a bit tiresome.
We just fry the cod with a bit of seasoning, and enjoy.

Ive got some pretty decent p cod some days. Maybe 5-6lbs and there is not a whole lot of meat on them. Their rib cage is really wide so you can only get meat off the back and lower end. That said the meat looks really nice. Get 3,4 and it would be a good meal.

I like them lightly coated in mayo and then rolled panko [japanese style] bread crumbs , then bake.

x2. I wonder if they have done studies on numbers? It seems they just showed up really the last 2-3 years. The ones i get are generally very small 1-2lbs. I hear of guys catching them 10-20 lbs in different areas but out of 100s i hit each summer only a couple are barely over 5lbs.

I find them pretty annoying when I'm trying to target salmon. Like others said its hard to tell when you have one on the line and I didnt spend thousands of dollars to catch shakers... It would be ALOT cheaper to go buy cod at the market if I wanted some. Biggest one Ive caught out of hundreds in the past few years was about 6lbs.
