Finally got the boat out for a run at noon today. Free Spirit was out off the Cannery and had boated a few fish so we ran over there. Dropped a new Silver Horde needle fly spackleback hoochie down to 200' and caught our dinner in short order. Nice 8 pound winter spring. As the first fish of the year it works out to a little over $400/pound. Gotta get out more often and lower that average cost.

Are you mounting it, or eating it?

Got out again on Sunday and managed to increase (rather than decrease) my average cost. Five other boats out and I did not hear of a fish caught.

Found the magic spot today after going fish-less yesterday. Fished in 250 feet of water on the NW side of Entrance Island. Kept 2 in the mid-teens. Fed another to a sealion and lost a couple. Every fish hit the Irish Creme Silver Horde spoon at 200'. Tried other spoons and hoochies on the other side but all the action was on the one spoon. The only other boat that found us in the fog (Down Time) boated several as well including one they said was around 20 pounds. All fish were fin clipped.

Right on hot rods. Good to see them with some size. Did you send the heads in? Im really curious to see where the local hatch fish we get are from. I remember catching lots of hatch jobs but never hear back(likely due to sloppy jog filling info)

Thats a good reminder Kelly.... if you guys are hitting a bunch of hatch jobs... I think we should all just inundate them with heads. I doubt that they have enough manpower to even cover the heads they do get (hence the not many responses??).
But feel that the information might help something?

Grumbling about the slot limit that will probably appear again this year in the JDF
I am vowing to not miss one drop off this year.

Good job Hot Rods.
What size of spoon were you using, and what color is the Irish Creme? I`m not familiar with that color.

Spoon was the 3" size. Fish had small herring in them. However, there were some big schools of bait showing and I would assume it is the start of the herring spawn run that normally shows up in Feb. A switch to larger spoons may be in order shortly.

I do send in all the heads from marked fish caught. Always get a report. Will post results although I assume these are American fish similar to past years.
