I apologize if this is the wrong section--my question is-- if you were equipping your boat with a new fishfinder and new radar--what would be the best choice and who would you choose to install it? Thanks

Lowrance is my choice, easy to use and good quailty. For the average fisherman or boater you can not go wrong got them on both of my boats, and install a far number of them to.

Hard to beat HC - fair price and good service! I am pretty sure you can get Dane or Jeff to do the install if you are not comfortable DIY. Cheers

I just ordered the Lowrance HDS-8m Multifunction Fishfinder GPS Chartplotter & the two Navionics Platinum chips(Puget Sound to Alaska), with the 50/200 transducer and the Lowrance LRA-1800 Radar. $4300.00 + installation bought in Surrey
We will find out this summer if it's worth the price

that sounds good-tell us the results--- went to HC today and priced Lowrance broad band radar-1799.99 side board sounder 700.00 and fishfinder 5 in color screen 699,99- installation approx 500.00 I allready have a new raymarine chartplotter which they would have accepted as a return if I ordered the chartplotter combo, but it has an internal GPS antenna and my boat has an Alumn top so I figured external ant and 2 screens would be better than single screen and hope for good gps reception. They have a special day of sales on May 8- so maybe I will get lucky and get a discount??

I'm sure you will get a great deal on the sale day. They usually have huge discounts that day. Good luck

I would talk to someone who has and uses the Lowrance broad band radar, after hearing that it works great in good weather and is not that good in heavy fog, when you really need it or heavy rain.
You may want to check into it a little deeper before you commit to buy, just my 2 cents worth and I'm no radar expert, this will be my first

after an interesting internet search of numerous reviews, the only weather related info I could find was "Negatives of Broadband radar, Broadbands less clutter is good for solid objects, but weather may be different. Looking for rain or squalls will not be as good as traditional pulse radar. Broadbands close range detail is very good, but from 10 miles out it is described as less than average. I did not find any mention of poor performance in bad weather--the only negatives seem to be re: distances over 10 miles. I feel a 10 mile scope is more than adequat for my 21' fish boat, and I ussually leave my trawler radar at the closest view--I figure a BC ferry which seems to be the fastest dangerous ship I encounter will take well over 15 minutes to get me if I'm paying attention (I have been known to let my mind wander dreaming of BIG bish though-LOL)
