Beauty day out on the water. Couple other boats but, no one is chatting. Was out from Fingers to start then played around at Entrance. Couple of nice lings at 111' with hootchie and baitrix, 1 from the bottom too, Purple haze (all released). Something else had a hold of my gear and only let go when I stopped and brought the rig up. Could not get it off the clip and was turning the boat. Down over 100'. Figger it was a snag but, no debris. Lotsa bait and good soundings. Boat running well, just gotta sort a couple other tackle related snafus and we s/b good to slay for real- soon.

Fished SE of Neck Point today targetting Pacific Cod. White hoochie with a green stripe down 140 to 170 was a killer. We also picked up two undersize salmon on the same gear. Free Spirit boated a 27" chinook on a spackleback hoochie in roughly the same area.

Time for me to dig out the boat. How do those cod compare to lings for eating Hot Rods? I always catch them but have never kept one.

Pacific Cod are a great 'fish and chips' fish. Just slab the fillet off, remove the skin and then make a cut on each side of the bone and you have two chunks of nice white meat from each fillet. Batter and deep fry. Excellent. The small fish we are catching right now are the best eating. They tend to get wormy when they get up in the five to six pound size. Remember, there is a limit of 8.
