I was at Thrasher yesterday, a few other boats out there too.

Put the prawn traps out and managed enough for dinner.

Trolled for a few hours while we waited for the prawns but nothing except for a MASSIVE sea lion that would pop up beside the boat randomly. Scared the hell out of me the first time.

Nice day on the water for our first trip this year. Can't wait to get back out there.

Not Nanaimo, but I was out at French Creek today.
Had a salmon on for a few minutes, but he decided that life was better in the water, soooo.
Lots of Pacific Cod today and they make for a great feed. Two of them were the biggest Iv`e ever seen.
And the greatest of all news, I caught my first dog-fish of the season. In February????

The Queen and I spent the day around Entrance with less than stellar results. Prawning was okay, but nothing big and only about 150 from 6 traps and 2 pulls. Were quite a few fish on the sounder but not much for bait until we went over to an area NW of Oribar (sp) point. Couple other boats had been hanging around there and we could see why. Lots of bait balls with bigger fish hanging around were showing on the sounder. Since it took us a while to get over there, we didn't get to spend too much time there, but it looked good. Only caught (& released) one rock fish as we passed too close to the bottom going over the reef. Next time I guess. Don't know how the other boats made out.

Cheers All,

It was a year ago this coming weekend that the first 30 lbs salmon was caught off the Nanaimo waterfront for 2009. With the increasing numbers and size of fish being brought to the boat, one can hazard that it won't be too long before this year's first over 30 lbs will be inside someone's boat to kick 2010 into high gear! :D
