Hi all

From Vancouver heading out to nootka on the 23 for a week,was wondering if anyone has a report.Also if anyone could give me some gps coordinates for some decent hali fishing to save me some time and fuel.Hope everyone has a great summer tight lines...

Headed out Friday AM from Gold river. Staying at critter cove fri/sat nights. Have a look at the other post on Nootka...Charlie has been extremely generous in details about Nootka and the "highway". (thanks again Charlie!) I'll be looking for a boat to buddy up with for the early AM offshore run, PM me if your interested. Have fun and good luck! Doug

Really hot for us last week, filled up four licenses in 4 days. Fish are coming inside now.

Lucky, I'm headed out tomorrow AM, what was the lure of choice for those springs? and did you head out to the Highway?

A couple of hot lures were anything chrome and green, also a pearl white teaser head worked. Green flashers always! Went to Bajo reef on the second day and did well, but not out to the highway.

just back from 4 day trip tp nootka. NW has been blowing a lot. On first day, (thursday) wasn't able to go outside, howling thasis winds . fishing was slow. fri wind dropped off in AM so out to Bajo, Had a slab on for some time, then lost (treble hooks broke apart) got a 44lb hali, then wind up so back inside. Most boats were up at camel rock, san carlos ,the wall area. not much of evening bite. fri. with strong inflows.
Sat wind dropped, headed back outside, to bajo. It appears fish have arrived. started fishing 7am, longest gap with out a hit was one hr, when we moved down the reef. got 7 springs in boat up to 25lb , most were 18-20lb, lost 11 had 5 violent head thrashers up to boat and lost 5 due to broken eagle claw trebles. Codfather was beside us most of the day. Upon returning to cabin, the other boats had got 15 fish so overall good day for most. Radio finally had a lot of chatter
Sadly thou, boat behind us, had a heart attack, and I beleive I heard he died... weather was fine sunday and fishing ok, we caught another one on way home. so 10 salmon, one hali and prawns. Using anchovies, when slow we tried spoons and plugs. Got hali on anchovie dragging bottom. critter said things quite good,

Thanks for the report Seadog, I'm heading over on Sunday for a week. Hope the winds are ok for us ,i'd sure like to get some hali's. What radio chanel area most of the guys on over there ?
Sad to hear about the guy that had the heart attack, I had one 3 years ago but managed to survive, at least he was doing something he liked when he went. My thoughts go out to the family sorry for your loss !!!!

apparently coast guard is asking everyone to stand by ch 6 so nootka light can moniter. I stay off ch16, as too much yakking or calling plugs channel. I heard numerous lodges calling their gang on ch06.

when u listen to locals, pay attention to south brooks buoy for above and laperouse buoy below for offshore conditions, listen for locals on estevan and solander. to compare. ebb tide versus light NW will stack up sea out to wash rock, as you get out pass wash, can be noticeable difference.
\most of herd is as above , but also at strange island and lots in beer can.
