To keep the Nanaimo thread from going way off track I thought I would start a thread to continue a civil discussion about the number of hook ups one can experience while fishing offshore on the banks :) .

Right now is or getting to be prime time out there on the banks. There are fish and bait everywhere. They are not that picky when it comes to lures. The coho are starting to show up in larger numbers and their numbers will only increase in coming days.

FG's post is not uncommon for this time of year. I don't recall him stating the length of time he was out so why all the mathimatician's  Lot's of the fish are wild coho and smaller springs that get released quickly so they don't take up that much time ;) .

Cheers Sculpin,

We had 3 guests fishing on our charters out of Ucluelet and they were experienced fishermen. We were out for 8 hours and our first fish was about 4 minutes in. I did not have to 'locate' the fish as a fellow guide (and friend) pinpointed where the fish were 'hanging out', the depth, lures and speed. So...we travelled to the exact spot, dropped our gear and had a blast! While out we had several double headers and, when a person landed his fish, he got the gear ready for re-deployment. A very efficient form of fishing and one that meant that we spent most of our day catching/playing fish rather than waiting. These guests got their money's worth!

I fish Ucluelet quite often - both on charters and also for fun on my friend's boat who happens to be a charter guide out of Ucluelet. It certainly 'helps' and we do extremely well...much better than the occasional weekend warriors.

I've had a number of days that we/I've lost track of #s hooked up,brought to the boat, and long distance release :) that will be etched in my mind that if you weren't there it would be hard to believe...

C&R Coho fishing at Cains Island,
Off shore fishing from Lippy,
Chum fishing at Greensea,
Spring at Galiano Bay,
Fly fishing Pinks at the Campbell (today :D )

just to name a few, sitting here thinking about it brings a HUGE smile to my face.....

When fishin is good, shakers and undersize are quickly forgotten (by me) and details of the big ones are what counts. Ah, but when fishing is slow, I remember every touch, undersize, and lost fish in excruciating detail.  Hey when it's slow, I need something to hang onto lol right now, with the boat still down, I clean gear, do yard work, and dream of the beauties I should be playing with. ;) Fish, I mean. :D
