Another first for Nanaimo. We attended a planning meeting this morning for the first ever, Kayak fishing derby to be held in an urban setting. Nanaimo's Pink Salmon Kayak Fishing Derby will be held Saturday, August 20th. It will be open to all human powered watercraft. Looks like some great prizes including a Kayak. Lots more details to follow.

All proceeds will be donated to the Nanaimo Fish Hatchery.

Great to see that all proceeds go to the hatchery! We'll all keep an eye out for them when they have their derby, but hopefully no one will tackle water beyond their abilities. Could they possibly carry radios so we can know and watch if one of them gets into a real hog? That would be worth watching.
