40 Pounder is a pretty good sized fish, caught on the inside or barclay or I guess it's his secret as it doesn't say on the leader board like the others were from pill / swale.

On someone's blog it says there was a 42 pound weighed in from a guy from parksville?

I wasnt in the Derby, but pretty much everyone in my marina had some sort aof action, but with only 1600 tickets sold and 701 fish caught... its a little slow.btw 2000 tickets needed to be sold before they break even, so the fest will be looking for extra sponsers next year as its there 40th anniversary

Maybe DFO can sponsor it next year since after all they are the fucking dopes that ravaged the spring runs year after year.

Port Alberni suffers enough with trying to bring in revenue and what was one of their biggest attractions with salmon fest and just salmon fishing in general is hurting, sure sockeye are great but it's more of a meat fishery in my mind than say sport fishing for something with more fight in it say chinook's and coho.

I just hope that in another 7 years when these runs might "recover" from not being opened up to the commercials someone here has the balls to step up and say no or try and lobby against it.
