As the header says, I was ripped off the night before last. After a decade on this property with zero theft problems, I was hit the other night. Despite two swivel base locks and bolted down, plus the Scotty lock on the rigger itself, Both downriggers were stolen. They also got my digi scale (good riddance on the scale) and a tackle box. At retail replacement, it is close to three grand. Insurance should cover part of it, but nowhere all of it. They best pray that I don't get my hands on them, as the police will only get what I leave them - promise. Two 60 inch telescoping Scotties, with a few easily identifiable features besides the serial #'s. If anyone notices a pair for sale, I would hope that we can check them out to ensure they are not mine. As tough as the monetary loss is, I am even more interested in nailing the creeps.

I lost a kicker off of my boat when it was only 3 ft. from the sidewalk, right on Finlayson under a street light and about 15 grand worth of tools and racing stuff out of my enclosed trailer parked in front of my house. It makes you want to just sit outside and wait for someone to try it again and play a little midnight batting practice.

Sorry to hear about your theft Jim. I had a similiar thing happen a few years ago, when thieves made off with both downriggers and a whole lot of other gear, which was all locked in the cuddy cabin, and the trailered boat was parked under our security light. The thieves sat in the boat in clear view, and took the door off the cuddy to get at the stuff. The worst part of something of this nature, is the invasion of your property, and the fact that there are so many people that will gladly take this gear off the crooks hands at a great price. They are just as dispicable as the thieves themselves. The police said that the chances of ever recovering the gaer is about zero to none. A person, should`nt have to go to the extreme, but I now keep all my gear in the garage and leave the cuddy door open. It`s a pain in the lower regions, but at least I`ve got my gear when I want to go fishing. Lure-washer

Thanks for the kind thoughts guys. Well, the insurance is replacing everything I could remember that they got except that with a thousand deductible I still take a hit. Mounting i/r camera, flood, motion sensor, and a very large bat. Please God, let them try again, and they just may find out what "evolution in action" means.

I sympathize with you. That's why I go to the trouble of removing everything of value from my boat and locking it away in an alarmed garage each time I return from fishing. It's a monumental pain in the a** and it adds a lot of time to get ready to go fishing but that's what I do. I can't believe that more of us don't get hit when we leave our boats at marinas when we fish away from home. When I go sockeye fishing we always sleep on the boat which gives me a bit of security but when we fish elsewhere we just zip up the canvas and walk up to the camper leaving electronics, downriggers and the likes totally unsecured. Maybe I've just jinxed myself. Dave
