not a bad idea Time but I think I'm going to just toss the wet bait. I don't have a prawn puller so I pull all traps by hand - with the effort involved in hand bombing two traps up I'm just going to buy some new bait.

I'll be out tomorrow morning to drop the traps and troll around for some chum in the inlet.

Bite the bullet and pay the 30 dollars for a anchor lift. Hand bombing is no fun and the anchor lift to lift traps is as smooth as snake shit. :D

do you just put on each string or do you put in place on the string when you are about to lift?

I have a lot of experience using them for anchors but they way I use it, it would be a major pain to remove it or add it to the rope each time?

and you right, hand bombing sucks!

What I do...(take it or leave it) is I have a loop at the top of each of my strings that I attach a caribeaner to the string float. When I get to my string I unclip my float , feed the line through the anchor lift, loop the line loop through my back cleat and attach. Then I drive away 400 feet at about 5 knots and poof the traps are up and suspended from the float attached to the anchour lift. Whole process takes about 4 minutes give or take. Then I just reel in my line ...coiling it into my bucket till I get to my traps....remove them and slide the lift off the terminal end.
If I am dropping them right away I just let the traps down until I reach the end loop, remove the anchor lift and reattach the line float. I only have one lift/float combo that I use for both my strings...however if I ever get around to buying another lift I'll just leave it on the line I guess.

If I'm reading the regs correctly, Saanich Inlet is closed until Nov 16th? Heading out that day hopefully for my first attempt at prawning.

anybody been out in the inlet lately? I've been working and hiding out from the rain myself.

Although a buddy has been hitting pat bay lately and said the size has increased a lot over last month although still some small guys to weed through.

I should be out tomorrow for a few sets, maybe even drag some gear around wain rock.

I was out today trying to get some prawns for the holidays and I gotta saw it was the best prawning I've had all season. Nice big fatties, no egg carriers and nobody around. Looked like a few guys working coles bay but my spot didn't have a single float.

mmmm, time to fry up some prawns and garlic and try to save some for xmas  Back out tomorrow!
