Hi , myself and my friend hoping to come over from Scotland to your awesome island next september (12th - 25th) for some river fishing, mainly fly fishing.Hire a jeep then over to nanaimo via ferry.Hoping to split the trip between Port Alberni , Campbell River and port mcNeill,I have been to Campbell river before, fished the Campbell,Gold,Conuma,Oyster and Quinsam.I would appreciate some advice regarding the other two areas or even any other destinations .Best rivers to fish?is it best to hire a guide,if so any recomendations?.I know it`s mainly salmon but is there any chance of some steelhead sport ?.We quite like the idea of exploring the loggers roads to the smaller rivers and streams (i have a backroad mapbook).Any help would be greatly appreciated , thank you ,Mountjoy.............

Stamp River in Port Alberni pretty much has steelhead 12 months of the year as do a lot of west coast rivers. Very few rivers on the east coast of the island have any real fishable runs of steelhead but there should be plenty of salmon around.

For Steelhead that time of the year I would recommend a guide out of Alberni or Campbell River. Good timing for Coho beach fishing which can be a blast off many beaches on the east coast of the Island.

Hi,we will be mainly salmon fishing but fancied a few days chasing steelhead.Read up about the demise of most east coast steelhead, pretty sad !,thought it might be the wrong time for them on the west coast (between summer and winter runs).I will contact some guides in the Port Alberni area, anybody recomend some good ones ? .Coho beach fishing sounds fun, might give it a go !,open to any other suggestions, tactics or any other areas we might consider ? ,thanks for the replies , Mountjoy.....
