I have a buddy I fish with once in a while - he does very well for both in Sidney, in fact he just got a 70lb or so hali from the sidney area a week or so ago.

Winter fishing can be very good in Sidney. We fish in deep water mid channel
near the bottom 140 feet. Coal Island can be productive too, as can Fair fax.
Sidney Anglers Tide book gives you lots of info on lures and bait to use.
good luck.

While we were letting our prawn traps soak in Brentwood we tried a little trolling off the Ardmore waterfront. Big surprise - tons of fish on the sounder. We caught one 9 1/2 pound spring and released a few under the size limit - and no seals! All fish were caught dragging the bottom.

pat bay can be good for winter springs as well, also the reef in front of coles bay is fishy. Nice work!

Well we hit 4 different spots and not a sniff anywhere. We didn't see any bait or other boats out there for that matter.

Oh ya and we ran out of gas  - but managed to limp on the kicker, barely.

we were out on saturday caught one little guy around 4 lbs, between the powder wharf and the red can. a few other boats but no action on them that we could see. One other bite, quick couple tugs then gone. Both on the purple haze squirt. Noticed about a hundred crab floats at sidney spit and have heard that there are dinner plates out there, so maybe we'll throw down some traps next time we are out.
