So this same topic was posted on the "other" site, & as usual deteriorated from a promising source of info into the usual off topic BS. Kinda hoped by posting it here we could get the useful info flowing again. So, anybody have opportunity to try these spoons?? What color, size, etc... did you like?? Any results?? Good or bad?? I personally like these spoons because they are made in the USA & seem to have a really good finish on them. I picked up a few 4" UV ones at Sportco yesterday, & the guys I talked to there really like them. They said they have been working great for winter springs so far this year & have been holding up very well...ie not bending or breaking like the now Chinese made Coyotes. There are a couple that have a double glow AND UV finish on them. Am definitely looking forward to trying those ones. :D They are a little hard to find right now, but apparently Pacific Net & Twine in Errington is going to be stocking them soon. Any other info would be greatly appreciated....who knows, might just be the next West Coast slayer 8-)

I have not seen these new spoons yet. I still like the coyote spoons even now that they are stamped in China. Don’t get me wrong I would buy local if I could find something that worked better. I have tried a few other brands and have not been happy with the results. I know that the coyote bends after a lot of use. The old ones did this and so do the new ones. I don’t find this to be a major problem as you can tweak the spoon to suit the conditions. I do dump the hooks that come with the spoon and will often go up one or two hook sizes.

The way I see it, a person would have to fish two different brand spoons side by side and try to make all things as even as possible. If the fish showed a preference to one brand that would be valuable information. If some unknown marketing guy gave me his infomercial, that would have to be taken with a grain of salt. After all that is his job.

Lately I have been using commercial spoons and they seem to be working also. They sure hold up to the use I put them through. I have one spoon that has caught over a dozen large springs and it still looks as good as when it was brand new. I keep track of the results of my coyote spoons and I don’t get more than three or four springs before they are retired. At between five and ten bucks a crack it can add up to a small fortune for the collection of spoons a person can have in the fishing box.

There is an old saying that spoons are designed to catch fisherman more than to catch fish. How true that is, you be the judge. For me I go by what has been proven by my circle of friends. When we find one that works it doesn’t take long for copies to make there way into the fishing boxes of my buddies.

Hey GLG,
That is how I ended up with WAY too many spoons. Buddies would catch fish on one spoon or another and I 'had' to have one - or usually two as I never have just one of something.

I am keen to try the new spoons. They are certianly spoken high of by the guys in the US so worth a try. Not sure I'll go out and replace my entire tackle box but some of the colours look good.

At the end of the day, I'd say fish what you are confident with as that is what will put fish in the boat.

We had good luck with big commercial (1/2 & 1/2) spoons and Gibbs Wonder Spoons. All of the big Gibbs spoons worked out on the west coast but, I liked using plugs more. Not sure of Silver Horde but I am sure they would work too. We also used UV Blast on most of the gear we put down.

The king fisher spoons are WAY better than coyotes. They have a way better finish and most of their colors are actually usefull, unlike 80% of the coyotes. Didnt get to fish them until late last year but caught fish the first time I put one down. You can tell just by looking at them that they will slay. The double glow UV's in the cookies&cream or the Irish cream, Purple/green haze are slayers. I still recommend changing out the hooks just like I do on the coyotes. King fishers, Tomics and the odd gibbs are the only spoons I'll be spending money on this season.

Did you get to try the Kingfishers I gave you last year BC?

I like the silver horde spoons, some cool color combos and seem better made then coyotes.

Its tough for me to put away the coyotes cause I have caught a lot of good fish on them but the quality of them these days pisses me off. They bend, paint chips easily and the hooks break, I mean come on that's a pretty important part of the lure!!

I loved the giant gibbs wonder spoons when I guided in winter harbour, the watermelon was a total killer offshore. But they rust like crazy, I had some wonder's rusting out in days. Tomics spoons never caught a spring all season for when running beside the wonders or plugs - so I'm yet to be converted to those.

I've played with a few different brand of spoons but I think this year I may stop buying coyotes and give the other brands more water time.

Off topic but anybody else love the wonderbread pattern, its my #1 pattern for spoons.

Some great looking color combos being offered by silver horde for sure:

They have alot more color combos than that too. The best 2 spoons they have arent on that chart but you cant go wrong with the 651,652,663,911, 826. As far as Tomic spoons go, give them another try MM. Last year they caught almost all of my biggest fish, try the 5-6" 530g/UV or the 602 when the big fish show up. I like the hammer finish ones because they last longer and seem to fish just as well as the regular spoons.

Wow FA,
Tell us all how you really feel. Clearly you've had issues with certain individuals. I think you've made your feelings so incredibly clear on every forum where you are allowed to post. We get it, now grow up and let it go, it is getting tiring...

People will shop where they want and from whom they want, your rants aren't going to change that.
