Am going out tomprrow(july22) to try Otter pt. and Sheringham, persistance is the key.Not alot aropund the Sooke area. One of the local lulls.going west is the answer. There hasn't been much around secrtetary and the trap lately.Am going to try early morning low slack at otter. This tactic will probably work.Try working through the colours with the gear to try to entice these fusspots.i know they are down there, but will they ever bite, stuborn they are sometimes. One thing that will work is dynamite,lol.......Ss out...

a big zero for me again,no fish around Sooke the last couple of weeks for i have had consistent skunk outs last few trips. The odd little wild coho that is all.just got to keep trying.I believe the salmon are hanging at the west entrance around renfew, staying with the herring. when the herring move down the salmon will follow, just a little dead spot.not much feed around.Ss out........

It was my first time fishing in Sooke and we were at Otter at 0600 July 23rd. Lots of boats, only saw 3 fish caught. So I guess I feel lucky that my little 9 or 10 pounder was one of them. 4 good bites as well, caught off the point just after noon at 85 feet in 120 feet of water. Good luck out there, I'm going home to Nanaimo hoping it's better!

was out again on sunday aug 8 for a 12 hour shift with a limit for the boat as an end result, that is stubborn fishing.3 spring 5 sockeye.one spring at 27lbs,the last one and worth the 11 hours it took to track him down.a good scrap.the fishing off sooke has finally picked up to the usual on off hot cold thing.the day to day play you might say.anyway sockeye are open and well worth going after.everything i caught on sunday was on pinkpurple plankton mini squirts,24 inch leader.sockeye stuff.even the big spring went for the squirt and not my herring.but,i opened him up right away and what does he have in him a 6 inch herring ,fresh,so they are feeding on herring but also seem to love the squirts.i am a die hard herring spinner but i am going to mix it up a bit more now that sockeye are open.Ss out............

went out tuesday aug 10 for a few hours mid day on a friendsS boat who has people visiting from alberta.managed to put them on a couple sockeye which was great for they have never even been on a boat let alone salmonfish.farmers they are.it was a beautiful day with no wind and calm sea.fishing was slower but alot of jumpers and most boats seemed to be picking up the odd fish, not bad for just a few hours.Ss out...............

Fished Bedfords to Trap Sun. Sockeye everywhere. We even caught some infront of Frazer Isl. in Becher bay. Did'nt see any big springs caught but managed a couple over 10. Eight socks in the boat, lost a few others. Not bad for only two rods and no dummies. Sockeye came on mini plankton/red flasher/27" leader as well as Purple haze flasher/white hootchie/36" leader. Springs were caught on anchovie and white hootchie trolled between 100-140ft @ 2.5-3 mph. Sockeye were found around 100ft and we caught them trolling faster than I had expected It started getting real snotty around 1 pm so we pulled the pin. All in all a fun day! Get out there and get the meat!! Chalupa
