Did anyone get out over the weekend. I was stuck at home. A saw a facebook friend caught a 34, but I'm not sure where. What's the word?

Didn't see or hear anything about springs at the cheanuh dock so me and the gf went out to the tidelines to play with coho. Not gangbusters but enough fish to keep the rods busy. Just wait another few weeks and I think the coho will make up for the lack of springs this year.

Posted this in the Vic thread but applies to sooke as well. But I got a call that coho fishing was nuts this morning near race.

3 guests all limited out on big hatchery fish in less then 2 hours - plus many wilds released. Average around 10lbs and biggest 15lbs(hatchery).

Big wave of pinks in the area too for those so inclined.

well I fueled up the tank on my little boat and went for a burn yesterday as far west as I could get to see whats coming out way.

Let me tell you there are some big northern coho making their way down JDF straight. Only one small hatchery in mix but I hooked into about 10 wild all over 10lbs and 2 of them very close to an honest 20lbs.

Also sooke basin is alive with fish but those guys seem to have lockjaw for anything I threw at them.

Wonder how far east those big boys will travel ?
seems like you still need to head west of Race rocks to find them .

ya still seems like the waterfront is quiet for coho, although I've heard of a couple hooked here and there.

Whats it usually like that way oct. Scott - do the coho stop or just shoot through?

Been many years since i've seen them in Oak bay...
used to get them in October off 10mile ,Cadboro point, sometimes in the Gap.
There used to be some streams to support them in the area, but most have dried up.
Might have to make a trip west once the wild's open Oct 1

out west again this morning, not hot and heavy but a good handful of 10+lb northerns and one hatchery around 10-12lbs.

A couple of idiots at cheanuh cleaning "pinks" - I informed them that they had killed 4-5 wild coho and small ones at that.
