No bass spawning in spider as of Saturday, water is only 47.8 deg. Gona be a while before it hits 60 deg. Managed to get 2 fat females full of eggs and 13 rainbows. Any other lakes spawning yet?

Just spent 6 hours fishing Spider and all we have to show is two Rainbows - although I will admit - one is a 20 inch beauty! But that is 6 hours with bobbers and worms. Slow.

I think we will head to Cameron next.

I've never been there and am heading up that way on Sat with my kids, is it worth trying from shore or do I need to bring a boat to get to the fish? Thanks.

Lots of guys fish from shore - three spots - one on the point near the first parking -just follow the path to the point; second one is just on the left side of the beach - again there is a path from the first parking or drive a km. to the main lot (if it is open) and then it is a 50 meter walk to the beach; the third spot is the best but takes some doing - from the beach there is a path on the left which follows around the bay (with some hopping over logs) - it goes all the way to a very short stretch of water (the water is only a foot or less deep)(three steps and you're over) - takes you to the first island - you can fish off either side and at either end. I have caught a fair number of rainbows and bass from the island - I get across the water with rubber boots (knee high). Enjoy. No need for a boat although some guys swear by the boat - I have caught as many off shore as by canoe so you have a choice.

Spider Lake has a great Bass fishery. I went there many times this summer targeting Smallies. Managed a new personal record, a 19 inch - 4.5 pounder. I decided to take it home for the smoker and when I gutted it found a 6 inch plastic worm and hook, check your knots boys. The best bait i found is Gulp leech, 5 inch, black with a 1/8 oz. black jig head. When I feel a pick-up, I count to three then set the hook. I fully expect bigger fish next year since the Society stocked it with 3000 rainbow fry this fall.
