I have passed on the VIN to the cops. A close eye will be kept on the creeps living beside where i keep the boat, probably stolen and sold to pay for a fix.

Cheers All,

I have spent the past couple of days reviewing this post as I had some immediate and visceral responses.

I feel the pain of Reel Time. The sad part of this occurence is that the motor can be replaced. They are made by the thousands and can be purchased any day of the week. The loss of security and the violation felt by Reel Time can never be overcome. He will always be 'looking over his shoulder' and that is the true loss.

The motor had a dollar value while the loss of security is priceless. :cry:

^ thats the truth, i had it in a secure area of the backyard, no issues with anything being stolen, but ya, different sense of security now. It was near brand new, and not a scratch on it, but the next motor I will engrave the the serial # deep into the metal leg and other areas, might be a good tip for others, make it noticeable so its in plain view.

Thanks RT, good advise that I will follow up on myself. Hopefully you will recover your motor.

Hi Reel Time;
I went through the same type of thing when my boat was brand new, parked at a hotel in Nanaimo. The bad guys undid the travel tarp very carefully, and cut the padlock, which was on the transom clamp handles. The motor had only been used twice, with less than 50 hours on it.
The police said that the crooks probably had an immediate sale for the motor, and could have quite easily been shopping for the exact thing.
A couple of years ago, I lost a bunch of stuff like downriggers, gps, etc. from the boat, parked on the trailer in our rv parking area.
The equipment was locked in the cuddy cabin and was parked directly under the security light. The thiefs took the hinges off the cuddy cabin door to gain entry.
Insurance covered most of the loss, but the invasion of your property really gets to you.
I was hoping that they might fall on the filleting knife my mother had given me, but no such luck.
