We came across an overlooked tacklebox that had seen its better days, with an assortment of saltwater gear that definately hasn't seen water in a few years. So you can imagine the mess!

Most of it was salvagable but noticed when cleaning up the wide variety of Buzz Bombs, the line hole was plugged so hard that nothing could penetrate it.

Whats your tried and true method for getting the holes unplugged?

You could go to a Welding supply store and get a set of TIP Cleaners, or try a small drill bit. I might even give them a soak in CLR first, I don't believe it would harm lead, and it would only attack the oxide. Might have to touch up the paint, but with all the new products now available, you might have a better then new lure! :)

Not sure about how to fix your problem. But to prevent this type of thing going forward I would highly recommend getting a tackle box with the clear plastic trays to keep your gear in good shape. If you rinse your tackle with fresh water and put the back dry, you won't have any more problems with rust. I know I spend a bundle on tackle so I'm interested in keeping it in good condition.
