Personally I don't support the Olympics as I feel the spirit of the games has been sold to soda, shoe and car companies. I feel it has turned into an event that funnels public money into private corporations hands.

Out Olympics is grossly over budget and we are dumping money into a big pit that is the Olympics. Last I heard we are going to spend at least 6.0Billion dollars on these games, that money could do a lot of good for disease research, homeless, health care etc.

I know some if not many might disagree but I'd like to hear what others think about the 2010 games and what they might or might not do for our province?

All government finances are in a mess, all around the world. If we broke even or even a slight loss it would be ok.The buisness cycle has swung the other way, unfortunate, poor timing. We the people in BC will be responsible for this debt.It will lead to higher taxes, and less services in the future. The HST is just the start.Did we need all these new venues? We got along fine without them before. We have many, many more issues that could use some dough. What's done is done. Now get your cheque book out.Dan

Exactly, there are so many better ways to use this money. The only valid point I see made for the games is the tourism benefit. Well let me tell you we wouldn't need to spend 6 billion if we actually used the money for real marketing.

we've been sold a slogan "the world is watching" but in fact very few are.

you know the only valid point for the Olympics that is coming up is tourism - well hate to break it to you but we don't need to spend 6 billion to attract visitors. That's what we in the marketing biz call negative ROI(return on investment)!

In recent times,up to 1992, the only Olympics to make money/break even was Calgary!
I don't know who has since, plus Calgary, didn't have the UNION generated overruns, at least not as much as you would have in B.C.
I moved to Alberta, in 1979, I was here temporarally to do a welding procedure that the local welders weren't familiar with, I liked the lack of sales tax and Unions, so I stayed. I still cheer for the Lions, the Canucks and I miss the old Salmon Bellies. But even I refer to B.C. as
BRING CASH! whenever I head home!
