I thought we needed a new thread for our south island winter spring fishery.
We were out on the weekend and scratched up 9,7, & 6 lb. hatch jobs.
released a few other's under 5lbs.
Anybody else with a report ? :?:

New to the site, this is my first post. I went out to Oak Bay flats yesterday morning til about noon, fishing was slow, but we did catch one nice 5lb spring for dinner on a purple haze flasher and a green/glow spoon. The water was beautiful and calm all morning, current was running a little but there was obvious signs of bait in the water everywhere. Lots of birds, looked like herring jumping, seals and orcas.....so much for the fishing.

Pretty slow off the waterfront too and i guess the whales played a part in that.
we hooked and lost one around 10 lbs to a hungry seal :x
First theft by the furry ones this season, and sure it won't be the last.

one more funny thing. We had been fishing for maybe 2 hours without a sniff when I asked my buddy what we had to eat in the cooler. He rattled off a list of snacks which ended with bananas. Now I'm not superstitious but I don't take any chances either, I made him throw them overboard, and as we watched them float away, literally seconds later Fish on. He had never heard of the rule before but now he knows. no bananas.

That is a 'bunch' of BS. I was under the influence of that superstition too until 1 trip out of Ukee.
We used to hire my buddy's guide service every year out of Ukee until I got my own rig.
The last year we went my buddy sloughed us off on his #2 so he could get a day off.
We are out 17 miles all rigged up and waiting. What does Mike (the guide) do? Whips out a banana and starts chowing down. I just about f-ing lose it. He's all casual about it as we are discussing the superstition, tosses the peel over board. About a minute later we get our first fish (tyee). Limited out no problem.
Its a good prank to play on JDF guys though as hitting fish down that way is tough any day.
Nuts are another 1 that gets some guys going...

That's funny. I always eat a banana while out fishing just to drive the superstitious crazy just like i don't use a black box either.

Not sure where to put this but it's kinda related lol.

Do you guys prefer feeder springs over mature springs coming back for eating?
