No news to report at this time troutfisher, but I live in Port Alice and will hopefully be heading there this Sunday. I'll report back. Oddly, it has been very cold here for the past week or so with snow falling 5 out of the last 8 or 9 days. Not sure how this will affect the lake and/or the bite.

Cheers!

Thanks for the input and good luck this sunday if you get out. I hope it warms up before the end of the month, Nanaimo to Victoria Lake is a bit of a drive just to find snow.

Fished Victoria Lake today, in my fly tube. Not a sniff. This was my first time there since moving to Port Alice six months ago; I was very surprised to see how big it is - reminded me of Sprout Lake in Port Alberni. Needless to say that me and my tube only covered a small fraction of the surface. Given all the reading I've done on the lake, I imagine a person needs to get down deeper than I was. Must say, absolutely stunning surroundings; only a couple handfulls of cabins scattered along the banks, snow capped mountains, lots of coves, great shore cover everywhere and it was like glass until 4:30 and then a stiff wind came up. I'll return soon, and go deep! Stay in touch with any success/tips and I'll do the same.

Cheers!

Just wait until the black ants hatch out.....it will be some of the best trout fishing you will ever see. Used to go there with my dad when I was a kid & all I can say is WOW!! Bows & cutties up to 5lbs just trolling a black ant around just below the surface. We would easily go through a dozen flies in a weekend mostly because of the big cutties that would just tear them to shreds. It was usually excellent fishing by the May long weekend, but could turn on earlier depending on the warm weather. If the ants aren't out, don't give up on the flies just yet. We also had good success on Royal Coachman, Lyoness, ( with feather wings, not hackle ), bumble bee patterns, mayflies, doc spratleys, bitch creek & mosquitoes. Mostly in size 6 with 8 & 10 for the mosquitoes. IF all else fails, the good ole' worm & gangtroll is always a good go to set up.
Good luck & let us know how you make out in the coming weeks. 8-)

Just got back sunday from vic lake it was very slow. Fished for two days and only managed to get two bows and a cutty the biggest was the cutty at about 15 inches. caught the one on a rappala and the cutty on the down rigger at about 45 feet with a silver flat fish. even tried jigging with a small sting zelda for a bit, last time I did this in this lake I got broke off by a big one, this time I got a 10 incher. Got the odd sunny break but mostly steady rain from friday to sunday. My nexed trip up there will hopefully be sometime in June when it warms up.

Pretty slow couple of days after making the trip up troutfisher. I wanted to drive out and say hello but work got the better of me this weekend. I did manage to sneak to Alice Lake Saturday night (only 10 minute drive from Port Alice) for a couple hours of dusk fishing. No fish. There was some finning fish around 9:10PM, but my dry flies couldn't produce a bite. I'll get to Victoria Lake this weekend for sure and will report back. Might as well stay with it. Can't beat the scenery!

Cheers!
